"At Last, my love has come along!" Scratch that, At Last my president is a person of color.
So I'm peacefully sitting at home listening to music from my Ipod Dock. I mean I was really gettin it. You would have thought I was performing at Madison Square Garden the way I was jammin to the sounds of Stevie and Alicia Keys. Well anyway, my phone rings.
Phone rings
Ma - Are you watching the ball
Me - Huh
Ma - It's on channel 7, turn to it, HURRY UP
Me - Ok, OMG, how did I not know about this
Ma - Call Me Later!
Me - Ok! Love ya
I don't have cable and regular TV SUCKS, therefore I don't watch TV much. As a result, I miss out on a lot of TV specials, and I LOVE TV specials!!! I mean, I guess if I had read the newspapers and listened to people talk I would have known about the Neighborhood Ball. Whatever, I caught it just at the right time.
I turned to it about 5 minutes before the very memorable First Dance. Just as it was coming on, my also clueless, nameless friend (cough Cough TC) calls me and I tell her to quickly turn to ABC. She does and becomes just as enthralled as I am. We both say at the exact time (I kid you not, and it wasn't scripted), "I Love Black Love... Shut Up! *insert uncontrolled, genuine laughter.* LOL!!!
I normally don't get teary eyed over, um....ANYTHING. Ask my mom, she'll tell ya. Hell, I don't even cry at funerals. But I must admit that I was strongly and passionately fighting back tears (alone in my room lounging in my undies) as I watched my President and First Lady dance to the sweet tunes of 'At Last' performed by the immensely talented Beyonce. I guess I could have balled like a baby and no one would have known (did I really ball like a baby??? hmmmmm, the world shall never know mu-ha).
It was a perfect way to end a campaign season and a perfect way to start a presidency. They looked perfect and they even danced perfectly (awkwardness, restraint and all).
I FEEL REALLY PROUND TO BE AMERICAN RIGHT NOW!
MAY WE CONTINUE TO TAKE STEPS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO ACTUALLY BE THE GREAT NATION WE SO OFTEN CLAIM TO BE
I'm Just Sayin!!!
