So I just recently started watching The Wire. Yeah Yeah Yeah, I know I'm late as hell, but better late than never right. So In Season 1 Episode 8, Wallace's (about 17 yrs old) Little brother or cousin or whatever (their relationship is besides the point) comes into his room to ask him for help with a worded math problem. I must admit that I, like most people watchin this, believed off the bat that Wallace would not be able to read well or wouldn't understand the problem. What else am I supposed to think? He's a young drug dealer and the media has convinced me that all young black drug dealers are idiots. But to my surprise he reads well and is very intelligent. He reads the question aloud to the little one who can't seem to figure out the answer. So Wallace, like the genius he could be, uses the drug trade to get the point across. He makes up a story of one person buying this amount and then getting more of that amount, and selling another amount etc. The little one gets the answer with almost no effort. Wallace asks him "How the fuck can you keep the count right, but not do the book problem then?" The little one replies, "count be wrong, they'll fuck you up."
I had one of those "what the hell" moments after watching this. Kids are MUCH smarter than we think they are. Kids of all races and backgrounds that is. We just need to find things that interest them in order to get them to understand the basics about math and science. And if selling drugs is one way to do it the I say "what the hell" go for it. It'll benefit everyone in the end.
Special Shout out to all the educators out there. Keep up the good work!

Meet The Browns
Today I was bored after my wonderful interview and decided to catch a movie. I had my heart set on seeing Vantage Point but it didn't start until an hour plus later. So instead of waiting alone for an hour, which can seem like waiting an eternity, I opted to go see Meet The Browns. Everyone who know me knows that I'm a movie lover. And I normally prefer the satirical or analytical movies as opposed to the more commercial movies, but hey, you can't really be disappointed with a Tyler Perry movie now can you. I mean his movies have everything: humor, black on black love, family, great music, church, and tons of food. I mean I get to live vicariously through the charcters for almost 2 hours. I get all my weekly fixing in such a short amount of time that I can't really complain about the $12 ticket price that I just paid for this visual experience.
So, this brings me to this. Why do Tyler Perry movies always end so damn predictably? I know it's a family movie or whatever, but geesh can we get a little deeper Tyler, can we? We only have TP movies or stupid shit like Soul Plane to represent us black folks, and ain't no way in hell you'll catch me watching Soul Plane unless all other movies cease to exist. Therefore I demand, and you guys might agree, that these movies need more realistic viewpoints. I'm sick of seeing every black male either playing basketball or getting involved in the drug game, I'm sick of the angry black woman who is mad at the world and I'm sick of these movies making southern people look like complete idiots. I understand Tylers reasons but I just feel like he's popular enough to start making movies with a little more depth and variety.
Nonetheless, I will continue, and urge all of you guys to continue to support Tyler Perry Films and other good black films. Here is a short list of my favorites for you to start with: Premium, Love Sex & Eating The Bone, Talk To Me......
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Incorrect English

This has been ticking me off ever since I moved to NYC. I don't know if it is an East Coast thing or just a "dumb-ass people" thing, but if I hear one more person say how much things or how many stuff I'm going to go crazy. People here need to learn how to use correct subject-verb agreement. No matter where I go I hear people speak like this. And they act like there is nothing wrong with it. I am only one person and cannot possibly correct everyone that I hear speak this way withoug the chance of starting some unwanted confrontation. Therefore I am asking, no begging, all of you to please help me in my quest to stop the spread of this epidemic of incorrect English. Trust me you don't want it to come to your parts, whereever that may be. That would just add to many stuff to what we already have to deal with, LOL!!!!!
